John Jennings Hopkins, 76, of Shoals, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper.

Born April 11, 1946, in Shoals, he was the son of Harold and Virginia (Earl) Hopkins.

He married Virginia E. Patterson on September 21, 1997, and she survives.

John graduated from Shoals High School with the class of 1965, then attended Indiana University, Bloomington.

He was a truck driver for Buchta Trucking in Loogootee, flew airplanes, and was a boy scout leader.

John loved driving his semi, going to Florida with his family gardening, watching westerns, NCIS, and Fox News, going to Oshkosh, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia “Dottie” Hopkins, of Shoals; children, Jennifer (Tom) Baxter, of Lafayette, Jondavide (Bailey) Hopkins, of Shoals, Becky (Steven) Pendley, of Shoals, and Amy Qualkenbush, of Shoals; grandchildren, Brooke Baxter, Payson Hopkins, Lettie Hopkins, Levi Pendley, Chasity Qualkenbush-Lee, and David A. Qualkenbush;

brother, Brian Hopkins; and one nephew, Jeremy Hopkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Brandon Pendley.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Friday January 27, 2023 at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care in Shoals, with Pastor Stan Day officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 A.M. until the service hour at the funeral chapel on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ms. Virginia “Dottie” Hopkins.
