Helen Verniece (Dale) Starling, of Solsberry, Indiana, passed away peacefully, on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon. She was 104 years old. She was born in Bruceville, Indiana on January 23, 1919, the daughter of John and Lillie (Carmichael) Dale.
She was a member of Second Mount Olive Baptist Church in Odon and was very active there in her younger years. She met her husband Ralph Parker Starling there and they were married April 27, 1939. Helen was a loving mother of four children. She retired from RCA in Bloomington, Indiana. She enjoyed arts and crafts, painting pictures, crocheting, sewing, and gardening.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Ralph (Buck) and son, Richard (Buck) Starling and daughter-in-law, Linda Starling, son-in-law John Carter, James McGlocklin, and Daniel Jackson and two brothers, Rev. Cainan I. Dale and Rev, Bennie I. Dale, and her great-grandson Samule Guzman.
She is survived by three of her children, son, David R. Starling of Solsberry, daughters, Shirley M. Jackson of Owensburg and Betty Joan McGlocklin of Owensburg.
Also leaving ten grandchildren: Jeff Starling, Robin Petry, Sherra Blakey, Pete Jackson, Tammy Mumma, Jan Ansted, John Carter, Tina Wilkes, Staci Vazquez, and Dale Jackson. Helen also leaves 28 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Second Mount Olive Baptist Church in Odon, with Adam Cissell officiating. Helen will be laid to rest in Sugarland Cemetery in Washington. Family and friends may visit from 10:30 AM until the hour of service at the church.
