The Loogootee Coty Council met last night. The council heard a request from Fire Chief Eric Thomas for equipment upgrades for his department. The chief said a new compressor was needed, and radio upgrades were requested for both the fire and police departments. The council agreed to hold off on the purchases at this time but will include them in the new budgets coming in June.
Loogootee recently received $600-thousand dollars in READI Grant money that will be used for the new Country Courts Subdivision, 30 acres that will be developed into 40 new homes.
The Council approved a five-year tax abatement for Red Fox Cabinets. The company owned by Todd and Stacy Wilcher has invested $650 thousand in their new business in Loogootee.
And the council agreed to split the cost with school resource officer Kelly Rayhill for next school year. Total costs with benefits are $75,000 for the year, which will be $37,500 for the city and the school.
