The City of Washington commemorated National Police Week with a ceremony at the Daviess County Courthouse. The event, organized by the Fraternal Order of Police for over two decades, gathered community members to pay tribute to fallen law enforcement officers. The names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice were read during the ceremony. Washington Catholic School choir students sang the National Anthem and God Bless America, while Washington High School’s JROTC program proudly raised the flag. Daviess County Sheriff Deputy Keith Hinderliter expressed his gratitude for participating and honoring the brave officers. National Police Week serves as an opportunity for citizens to express their appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice of police officers. President John F. Kennedy initiated this annual observance in 1962 by designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day.
