Wilbur Himsel Barber

Wilbur Himsel Barber, age 84, of Glendale, IN, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023, at Heart-to-Heart Hospice Facility in Evansville, IN. He was born in Daviess County, IN, on August 26, 1938, to the late John E. and Vonlue (Himsel) Barber. On December 22, 1984, he married Glenna F. Wininger, and she survives.

A 1956 graduate of Washington High School, he was a lifelong farmer and was co-owner of B&D Coal Company. He raised hogs and cattle for many years. Wilbur was a man of many interests. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing go-karts, arrowhead hunting, and was the greatest story teller within the area. Everyone loved to hear his stories, he could point out where each farm was before the Glendale Lake was formed. He never met a stranger and could talk to anyone. He was raised by his grandparents, Andy and Dessie Himsel.

Wilbur is survived by by his wife, Glenna Barber; his children, Lisa Baugh (Chris Hayes), and Dane Barber (Laura); step-children, Bryan Faith and Lisa Jones; grandchildren, Dillion Baugh, Elliot Baugh, Danielle Barber, Andrea Barber; 6 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren; brother Andy Fred Barber, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his brothers, Hal and Lonnie; his sister, Sue Ann Armes; and his stepson, Jarit Wininger.

Visitation for Wilbur will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 2:00-8:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. Per Wilburs’ wishes, there will be no funeral service.
