James Joseph Wheatley, born on September 15, 1961, in Vincennes, Indiana, passed away at the age of 62 on April 22, 2024, in Newburgh, Indiana. He lived a life marked by love, adventure, and the warmth of companionship, leaving a legacy of cherished memories among family and friends.

James was known for his loving and friendly nature, as well as his adventurous spirit. He relished being outdoors, where he found solace in fishing and hunting, often surrounded by his many friends. He was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bicknell, IN. This passion was a testament to his appreciation of nature and the simple joys of life.

Survivors cherishing his memory include his wife, Lora Robinson Wheatley, whom he married in Bicknell, Indiana, on May 10th, 1986. This union blessed him with a daughter, Kelsey Wheatley of Wheatland, joyously extending to six beloved grandchildren: Lucy Wheatley, Katherine Wheatley , Brynlee Heishman, and Oaklynn Taylor. James’ legacy is also fondly remembered by his brother John Wheatley of Oaktown, IN, sisters Cindy Arthur of Vincennes, IN, Cathy Seth of Wheatland, IN, and Carol Lane of Vincennes, IN, along with several treasured nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Clarence Carl Wheatley and Alice “Pea” Wheatley, and his brothers Don, Ray, and Mark Wheatley.

James proudly served his country in the Army before dedicating many years of service to Lewis Bakery. His commitment to work and country were paralleled only by his dedication to his family and friends.

James’ life was an embodiment of kindness and curiosity. Each person whose life he touched will forever carry a part of his enduring spirit. As we bid farewell to James Joseph Wheatley, we celebrate the remarkable journey he shared with us all.

There will be visitation on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Bicknell, IN with service following immediately after at 1:00 PM.
