Knox County is partnering with state and federal agencies to boost earthquake resilience through a new preparedness project beginning in June. Led by the Knox County Emergency Management Agency and supported by FEMA, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and CUSEC, the initiative will assess critical infrastructure like schools, hospitals, and emergency facilities for seismic vulnerability. Using FEMA’s P-154 methodology and CUSEC’s screening tools, the two-week survey will result in a detailed report, GIS mapping, and recommendations to improve emergency response and long-term recovery planning. The effort comes at no cost to the county and will support updates to Knox County’s Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan.
