Pike County Progress Partners has been awarded a $5 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help develop the new Buffalo Trace Trail, a 2.5-mile addition to Petersburg’s existing 5-mile fitness path. The trail will improve walkability for local residents while incorporating public art installations through a partnership with Indiana University’s Center for Rural Engagement. The project also includes efforts to eliminate blighted properties along the route. Construction is expected to span the next three years.
