Carolyn Sue Lucas, 78, of Vincennes, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Hospital on May 11, 2025. Carolyn was born on January 11, 1947 in Vincennes, Indiana to Charles and Annabelle (Carrie) Berry.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965, the same year she married the love of her life, Jack Lucas, on December 4. Throughout their marriage, she supported him in his business endeavors and worked alongside him as owners of Tasty Flake Bakery, Taco Rail, Norge Laundromat, and Fortner Pest Control. She also worked at home as a babysitter, at the hospital as an aide, at GentleCare Nursing Home, and earlier at the White Kitchen and Dairy Queen. Carolyn was talented at cooking and baking, decorating cakes, and sewing and blessed others with these God-given gifts, including children who she helped with 4-H projects. She had a servant’s heart and a love for people. She attended church all of her life starting at the Free Methodist Church, then Bethlehem General Baptist and most recently Bethany General Baptist in Bicknell and Bunker Hill General Baptist in Vincennes. She was active in supporting missionaries throughout her life, including a trip to Jamaica to sew uniforms for children. She was known as a prayer warrior. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family, watching Hallmark Channel and game shows, growing flowers, working puzzles, helping others, and attending grandkids’ activities.
Carolyn is survived by her three daughters; Angela Lucas of Denver, CO, Amber Soderling (Scott) of Vincennes, Andrea Hostetler (Chris) of Vincennes, six grandchildren; Jacquelyn Duncan (Andrew) of Evansville, Joshua Nelson (Alee) of Evansville, Jordan Soderling (Jennie) of Indianapolis, Jonathan Soderling, Jillian Hostetler, and Joseph Hostetler all of Vincennes, one great-grandchild; Miles Duncan of Evansville, 2 sisters; Patti Stuber of Vincennes and Coleen Fitch of Indianapolis, and a brother, Chuck Berry of Vincennes. Several nieces, nephews, dear friends, and others whom she treated as her own children survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Visitation for Carolyn will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 4:00-8:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home 524 Broadway St., Vincennes, IN 47591. A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:00am at the funeral home. Friends and family may visit on Saturday morning from 9:30-10:00am. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery where Carolyn will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Jack. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Lincoln High School Band Boosters Fund, the Missionary Society at the Bunker Hill Baptist Church, or the Flaget PTO fund. Donation envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
