Lois Darlene “Hopkins” Roach, known to most as Darlene, a guiding light to her large and loving family, passed away on the 14th of June, 2025, in Loogootee, Indiana. Born on the 31st of October, 1931, in Shoals, Indiana, she lived a remarkable 93 years characterized by devotion to her faith, family, and community.
Darlene spent her early years in Indiana, immersed in the warmth of a bustling household. She married the love of her life, Herschel R. Roach, on October 31, 1949, in Washington, Indiana. The couple’s life was a testament to shared values and enduring love until Herschel’s passing. Darlene found joy in her role as a mother, grandmother, and matriarch. She is survived by her adoring children, Sheila Parsons (Rick) of Jeffersonville, IN, and David Roach (Carol) of Vine Grove, KY. Her lineage includes her beloved eight grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and nineteen great-great-grandchildren, who will fondly cherish her memory.
Darlene was a lifelong member of the Free Methodist Church, where she dedicated herself to service and fellowship, embodying Christian values in every aspect of her life. She was cherished within her faith community and served as an example of compassion and grace.
Amongst Darlene’s many joys were simple pleasures: fishing trips with her sisters and mother, the quiet focus of solving crossword puzzles, spirited games of bingo with old friends, and the creation of countless treasured crocheted items. These interests all displayed Darlene’s ability to find joy in life’s moments and to forge deep connections with those around her.
Predeceased by her husband Herschel, her son Mark Roach, parents Charles L. and Nellie Mae “Hardesty” Hopkins, her five sisters, and three brothers, Darlene leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will continue to inspire her family.
L. Darlene Roach’s life was full of commitment to the ones she loved and the faith that guided her. In every role she occupied, from matriarch to devout church member, she left an imprint of kindness and devotion. Though her presence will be profoundly missed, her spirit remains a comforting and pervasive presence in the lives of those who were blessed to know her. Her journey on earth, marked by an unwavering faith and an extraordinary capacity to love, is now a treasured memory for all who shared in her life.
There will be a visitation held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Free Methodist Church in Washington, Indiana, with a service following at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor Rick Parsons.
