Knox County’s plan to build a new Emergency Operations Center has hit a financial hurdle, as construction bids came in significantly over budget.

Originally estimated at $2.3 million, the proposed facility, set to house emergency management, central dispatch, and the coroner’s office, received bids ranging from $3.6 million to over $4.8 million.

A decision on how to proceed is expected within two weeks.
