Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita’s office has announced 13 criminal investigations into suspected Medicaid fraud, resulting in charges against 13 licensed medical professionals and providers. The investigations are part of a broader nationwide effort led by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services to combat health care fraud and drug diversion. Two of the Indiana cases involve Qualified Medication Aide Jenny Byrd and Licensed Practical Nurse Kayla Bell, both charged in Vanderburgh County for allegedly diverting narcotics from nursing home patients for personal use. Byrd and Bell both reportedly admitted to the actions during investigations. Rokita emphasized the importance of protecting Medicaid resources and holding wrongdoers accountable.
