Janet Dean (Blevins) Grider, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, in Owensboro, Kentucky, at the age of 86. Born on March 22, 1939, in Washington, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Howard L. and Nina M. (Williams) Blevins.
A proud graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1957, Janet was active and well-loved by her peers. She served as a band majorette, student council member, Homecoming Queen, Prom Court representative, and secretary of both her Freshman and Junior classes.
Janet married her high school sweetheart, the late Bruce A. Grider, and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage grounded in love, loyalty, and laughter. A devoted mother to three children, Janet faced life with unwavering grace, wit, and determination. She instilled in her family the values of kindness, resilience, hard work, and curiosity—especially through her enduring love of books. Gardening was also a passion of Janet’s, cultivating as many memories as she did flora.
Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, especially during the holidays. Janet made Thanksgiving and Christmas magical, creating traditions and memories that will be cherished for generations.
She is survived by her loving sister, Carole Regin of Evansville, IN; her daughter Beth Brewster (Gary) of Old Hickory, TN; sons Brian Grider (Celeste) of Franklin, TN, and Brad Grider (Jill Herman) of Oak Ridge, NC; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many dear nieces, nephews, and in-laws who were touched by her warmth and love.
Funeral services will be held at noon on July 19, 2025, at Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home in Washington, IN. Burial will follow at Sugarland Memorial Gardens. Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with Mrs. Grider’s arrangements.
