Shirley K. Yarbrough, a spirited soul known for her infectious joy and love for dancing, passed away at the venerable age of 76 on July 7, 2025, in Loogootee, Indiana. A native of Washington, Indiana, born on October 24, 1948, Shirley spent her lifetime embracing the beauty of everyday moments and the companionship of those she loved.

Daughter of the late Jenne “Alberta” Jones Yarbrough and Roy Yarbrough, Shirley was a beacon of light not only in her family but also in the community she adored. Though she is now dancing to celestial tunes, her legacy is carried forward by her devoted caretakers, Cori, Tim, and Lili Lukomski, as well as a host of cousins who will miss her dearly—Joe Lukomski with Marsha, Nancy Sharp with Gary, Joe Mendy with Maddie, and Sam Lukomski, along with the younger generation of Kelli, Lance, Josie, Mason, and Garrett Mathies. Shirley steps into eternal rest following her beloved sister, Mary Jones, and Aunt Dorothy Lukomski.

Shirley’s zest for life was matched by her creative talent in the art of making jewelry, a craft she honed with patience and passion in her later years. Her involvement with local associations such as the Eagles, Moose Lodge, and the American Legion stands as a testament to her commitment to fellowship and service. Shirley was proud of her career as a housekeeper for nursing homes, always being a kind face to those she helped.

Those who knew Shirley will recall her fervent love for dancing—a passion that brought her immeasurable joy and brightened the lives of many around her. The dance floors of the social halls and gatherings will feel the absence of her lively steps and infectious laughter.

Shirley’s life can be summed up by the joy she found in simple pleasures and the depth of her care for others. She was a friend to many, always ready with a smile, a helping hand, or a piece of handcrafted jewelry to brighten someone’s day. Her memory will waltz through the thoughts of those she leaves behind, a spirited reminder to cherish the music of life.

The world has truly lost a remarkable woman in Shirley K. Yarbrough. As we bid her farewell, we also celebrate the many ways she touched our lives and the indelible mark she has left on our hearts. The heavens above now shimmer a little brighter, adorned with the light of her soul. May she rest in peace as she finds her final resting paradise beyond the stars.

There will be a graveside service held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Sugarland Memorial Gardens at 10:00 AM. Fond memories and online condolences may be left at www.gillsince1872.com. Fredrick and Son-Gill Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with Shirley’s arrangements.
