A man was fatally shot early Thursday morning during an altercation in rural Sullivan County. Authorities say 30-year-old Ryan Gehring of Prairieton was trespassing near the 800 North block of Shelburn around 1 a.m. when a confrontation occurred. According to Indiana State Police, Gehring was told multiple times by the property owner to leave before a physical altercation broke out, resulting in Gehring being shot. He was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital where he later died from his injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for July 13. The investigation is ongoing and will be forwarded to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
