The Pike County Economic Development Corporation has released a new housing strategy aimed at reversing population decline and supporting future economic growth. The updated housing study, conducted by Anderson Partners and sponsored by CenterPoint Energy, highlights a projected drop in population below 12,000 by 2030, a level not seen since before 1900. With workforce availability closely tied to housing, local leaders say it’s time for action. The county broke ground in 2024 on its first single-family subdivision in over 35 years, and redevelopment plans are in motion to add about 60 rental units. Executive Director Ashley Willis said Pike County is attracting growing interest thanks to its strategic location between Toyota Motor Manufacturing and Crane. The new strategy outlines plans to meet demand for 285 single-family homes and 190 multi-family units by 2028 through subdivision development, infill housing, and financial education for first-time homebuyers.
