More than three decades after the murder of Norman Ellerbrook, a breakthrough in the cold case has led to the arrest of an Evansville man. On Tuesday, July 22, the Indiana State Police Cold Case Squad and the FBI arrested Timothy R. Farber, 61, for the 1993 murder of Ellerbrook, who was found dead in his home near Warrenton. Ellerbrook, 63 at the time, died from blunt force trauma and also suffered multiple non-lethal stab wounds. His body was discovered at the bottom of his basement stairs by a roommate. For years, investigators worked the case with no arrests. But recent advancements in DNA analysis, conducted at ISP Regional Labs in Evansville and Indianapolis, helped tie Farber to the crime. The Gibson County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant, and Farber was taken into custody around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday near Fulton Avenue and Maryland Street in Evansville. He was arrested without incident and is currently being held without bond in the Gibson County Jail. Authorities say no further details will be released at this time.
