Robert Joseph Shepard, 96, passed away peacefully during the afternoon of September 15, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born in Washington on May 27, 1929, the only child of George A. and Aurelia (Bordenet) Shepard.
Robert was a Washington High School graduate who worked as a machinist for the Henry Vogt Machine Company in Louisville, Kentucky. A man of many interests, he enjoyed fishing and boating. Robert was also known to be a great handyman – he loved “tinkering” and fixing things – and he was an accomplished mechanic who could work on any kind of motor or engine. Robert was a devoted family man and attended Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
Those who now cherish Robert’s memory include his children: Cheryl Rice of Louisville, Kentucky; Larry (Marcia) Shepard of Georgetown, Indiana; Kenneth (Sheree´) Shepard of Sarasota, Florida; and Dennis (Darlene) Shepard of Louisville, Kentucky; and his special friend and caregiver, Lorene Kilps. Robert was blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
During his lifetime, Robert mourned the passing of his parents, George and Aurelia Shepard; his first wife and the mother of his children, Lenora Melton; his second wife, Mary Shepard; and his third wife, Lavonne Shepard.
Visitation for Robert Joseph Shepard will be held 1:00-3:00 pm, Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary, 620 East Viola Avenue, Washington, Indiana.
Funeral services for Robert Joseph Shepard will immediately follow the visitation on September 19, 2025, and begin at 3:00 pm, also at the Ed L. Lee Mortuary. Yvonne Evans will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
