The Martin County Commissioners have declared a local state of emergency and issued a countywide burn ban effective immediately.

The ban prohibits campfires (unless in approved fire rings), open burning of debris, and the use of burn barrels.

Grills fueled by charcoal or propane are allowed, but charcoal must be fully extinguished before disposal.

Officials also urge residents to avoid aerial fireworks.

The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
