There is new information regarding the Dylan Smith murder case in Knox Circuit Court. Smith is charged in the August 5 death of Taylor Hendershot in Vincennes. His attorney, Brock Dawson, has requested a change of venue, arguing that community memorials, widespread media coverage, and the victim’s family ties to a sitting judge could prevent a fair trial in Knox County. Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan opposed the request, calling it untimely and noting no evidence has been presented to show jurors could not remain impartial. He said publicity and vigils are common after violent crimes and do not automatically create bias, adding that jury questioning is the appropriate safeguard. The court will weigh both sides’ arguments before making a decision on the venue request.
