Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan opposed the request, calling it untimely and noting no evidence has been presented to show jurors could not remain impartial. He said publicity and vigils are common after violent crimes and do not automatically create bias, adding that jury questioning is the appropriate safeguard. The court will weigh both sides’ arguments before making a decision on the venue request.
