The Washington City Council met with only a few items on the agenda.   The proposed amendment to the ordinance regulating door-to-door sales in the City was again tabled because differences between the wording in the proposed amendment and the original ordinance need to be reconciled.

The Council then approved two amendments on their second reading.  The first ordinance revised the plat of the Deerfield Subdivision, moving the lot line between lots 11 and 12.  The second ordinance appropriated funds for the city budget and adopted the municipal tax rate for 2026.  The final tax rate will be determined after a review by the State.

In other business, the Council set the City’s official Halloween trick-or-treat times as Halloween night between 5 pm and 8:30 p.m.  Mayor Rhoads also said that the City’s Halloween Safe-Stop will be at Eastside Park from 5 pm to 7:30 p.m.

Mayor Rhoads said the proposed safety ordinance for rental properties is ready for examination.  A copy can be found on the City’s website.  The Council will hold a public work session to answer questions from the city’s landlords.  The Mayor said the general public is invited to attend.

The Mayor also announced that First Friday at the Commons would continue through the first Friday of October.

Due to Columbus Day, the first City Council meeting of October will be held on Tuesday, October 14.
