The holiday season is kicking off in Loogootee, and city leaders are gearing up for a busy stretch of events. On this week’s Gettin’ in the Know, Greg Bateman spoke with Amber Gilbertson, secretary to the mayor and a key member of several community boards, about what residents can look forward to. The festivities begin Thanksgiving weekend with the Gobble Wobble 5K, 1-mile fun run, and Lil’ Gobbler Dash on Saturday, November 29, at Loogootee City Park. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with the race at 8 a.m. Early sign-ups receive a free T-shirt, and young participants get a toboggan. Registration forms are available at the mayor’s office or on the Beautification Board Facebook page.

Holiday celebrations continue Sunday, November 30, with the annual Christmas tree lighting from 5–7 p.m. at the pavilion. The event features food vendors, free hot chocolate, photos with Santa, letters to Santa, and free ornaments made by Lion Manufacturing.

The popular Loogootee Christmas Stroll and Parade returns December 7, running from 2–6 p.m. with vendors, photos with Santa, and new this year live reindeer from 2–5 p.m. The parade starts at 6 p.m. with themed awards including the Rudolph’s Red Nose Award and Mayor’s Choice.

The city will once again host its ice skating rink on December 19–21, with hours varying by day. Gilbertson also noted the return of the Christmas cookie bake-off, with proceeds supporting the Retired Senior Volunteer Program after recent funding cuts. Residents can find full details and registration information on the Loogootee Beautification Board’s Facebook page. Listen to the full interview this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. on Gettin’ in the Know with Greg Bateman on The Razor 94.5.
