Donald Edward “Don” Mattingly, 85, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Serentiy Spring Senior Living at Northwood, Jasper, Indiana.

He was born on September 22, 1940, in Loogootee, Indiana to Ervin and Flora (Greenwell) Mattingly.

Don was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. He lived a life filled with purpose, hard work, and a whole lot of love. After 35 dedicated years with USG, he retired with pride, grateful for the friendships he made and the years he spent doing work he cared about. But more than anything, Don was a family man through and through. He adored his children and grandchildren — they were the center of his world, and he lived each day for them.

A true outdoorsman, Don found joy in simple, steady things: woodworking in his shop, hunting in the quiet woods, camping under the stars, and sitting beside a warm crackling fire. He raised beagle puppies for many years, delighting in each new litter and the energy they brought to his life. He was also a loyal IU basketball fan, cheering on the Hoosiers with enthusiasm season after season.

Don had a generous spirit and a giving heart. He volunteered at the local food bank, always willing to lend a hand wherever one was needed. He was the family “fixer,” the one who could repair just about anything. His biggest project — and one of his greatest sources of pride — was renovating the very home he was born and raised in, preserving its history while making it his own.

Above all, Don was a man who loved big. His presence was steady, his heart was warm, and the love he poured into others will continue to shine through the family he cherished.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Nancy (Colvin) Mattingly, his second wife, Theresa (Wagoner) Mattingly, Siblings: Lewis Mattingly, George Mattingly, Louise Neideffer, Elizabeth Goble, Laverne Williams, Jeanie Mattingly, Alice Walker, Larry Mattingly, Bobby Mattingly, Tom Mattingly, Ronnie Mattingly, and one infant brother.

Don is lovingly remembered by his children: Michael (Kelly) Mattingly, Diana (Marty) Beckman, and Kimberly (Jim) Perry; Grandchildren: Jory Beckman, John, Mitch, and Brett Mattingly, Elizabeth (Austin) Jacobson; Great-grandchildren: Piper, Brooks, and Faith Jacobson; many nieces & nephews.
