It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Carl Floyd Scott, 72, of Columbia, Missouri, and formerly of Oaktown, Indiana, who departed this life on December 5,2025. Born on January 10, 1953, in Vincennes, Indiana, to the late Floyd R and LouAnna (Price) Scott. Carl was a devoted son, brother, and friend, whose life was marked by a deep love for family, community, and service. Also Carl retained his membership at the Oaktown First Christian Church.
A distinguished graduate of North Knox High School, class of 1971, Carl went on to earn his Bachelor and Master degrees in mathematics from Indiana State University. His professional career spanned 39 years as an agricultural statistician with the United States Department of Agriculture, where he made significant contributions to the field of agriculture. He has always been involved in farming as a young man and as a career focusing on farming and agricultural issues.
Carl’s commitment to community service was exemplified through his 26-year membership with the Downtown Optimist Club in Columbia, Missouri, where he recently received the esteemed Don Sievers Presidential Award for the East Missouri District presented by the Governor and the National President of Optimist International. He was always willing to help with any request or task needed to support the various activities of the club.
A sports enthusiast, Carl was a devoted fan of Indiana and Missouri teams, including Mizzou, Kansas City Chiefs, Purdue, IU, Colts, Pacers, and Indiana Heat. He would buy newspapers just to read statistics. Also he found great joy in nurturing his flowers and planning family vacations. Carl was the travel guru of the family and took great pride in ensuring everyone had a memorable trip.
Carl is survived by his beloved sister and best friend, RuthAnn Scott of Oaktown, Indiana, as well as cousins, U.S.D.A. co-workers, and Optimists International friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and LouAnna Scott; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Alida Scott; and maternal grandparents, Lon and Corlena Price.
Funeral services will be held at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Oaktown Chapel on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 2:30 PM, with Pastor Tom Lee Zimmerman officiating. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Carl’s life, beginning with a visitation at 1 PM. Carl will be laid to rest next to his parents and paternal grandparents in the Oaktown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Oaktown First Christian Church 103 School St. P.O.
