James Thomas Roby II, age 72, of Oaktown, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on December 4, 2025. He was a lifelong resident of Oaktown, having been born on July 6, 1953, in Vincennes, Indiana, to the late Maureen Porter Roby and James Thomas Roby I. Known for his kind nature and joyous spirit, James touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
James, was a dedicated father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his loving children, Pamela Morrison (Randy) of Oaktown and Jeremy Roby (Amanda) of Louisville, Kentucky. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren Destiny, Thomas, Maribel and one cherished great-granddaughter Lilly . James is also survived by his brother, Steve Roby (Kathy) of Tampa Bay, Florida, and his sister, Michele Brough (Darrell) of Oaktown, Indiana. While James will be fondly remembered by his family, his passing follows that of his significant other, Paula Plummer, and his brother David Roby.
James was known as a reliable and meticulous Inventory Specialist , he was a man of many talents. Alongside his work, he was active in his local community, he was a member of the Oaktown Christian Church. James’s commitment to faith was evident in the love and guidance he provided to his family , James often spent his time tending to his garden or country cruising with Paula or his friends listening to music. His passion for sports was also well-known, as he enjoyed following his favorite teams and sharing the excitement with friends. He collected baseball cards and lots of other memorabilia which he got from his father. He loved the Bears and the Cubs which he loved debating with anyone every time a game was on. A talented individual, he found solace in drawing and had a deep appreciation for music, which served as a soundtrack to many memorable moments throughout his life. James got to spend this last year with his daughter while battling COPD. He was surrounded by his sister and granddaughters also in this time which he treasured beyond words.
As we say goodbye to James Thomas Roby II, we celebrate a life that was lived to the fullest and the immeasurable impact he made on his family, friends, and community. There will be a memorial visitation on December 20, 2025 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt, Oaktown Chapel with a service immediately following.
