Multiple fire departments battled a fully involved pole barn fire Sunday afternoon in the 6600 block of East 400 North near Montgomery. Dispatch received the call just after 3:30 p.m., with reports that one side of a shed was engulfed in flames. Fire crews arrived within minutes to find a 35-by-40-foot pole barn fully involved, and requested tanker assistance from Plainville and Madison Township. Firefighters mounted an aggressive defensive attack, preventing the fire from spreading to a nearby smaller outbuilding and a semi trailer parked next to the structure. Crews were also able to remove several small items from the rear of the building before it became fully engulfed. The roof later collapsed as firefighters continued to work hot spots using an excavator. EMS checked the homeowners for possible smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported. Officials believe the fire started accidentally near a wall heater. Crews remained on scene for several hours before clearing shortly before 5:50 p.m.
