Donald “Rod” Edward Carrico, 87, of Loogootee, Indiana passed away on Monday January 26, 2026, at his residence.

He was born on June 20, 1938, in Loogootee, Indiana to James Lyman and Mary Regina (Cissell) Carrico.

Rod was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Church in Loogootee, Indiana. He was a United States Army Veteran. Rod loved the Lord and was a living example of faith to his family, drawing them closer to God through the way he lived. Throughout his career, he was deeply committed to supporting the warfighter. Above all, Rod shared a lifelong love with his wife, Sue, beginning in 1955 when she was just 15. She often visited the Ritz Theater for popcorn while Rod was working, though she was really there because she liked him. Rod eventually married Carolyn “Sue” (Bledsoe) on December 17, 1960. Rod and Sue moved to the Indianapolis area in 1961 where he completed an Electronic Technician Apprenticeship from IUPUI and started work as an Electronics Technician at Naval Avionics in Indianapolis for 35 years and 22 years for SAIC. They then moved to New Palestine, Indiana before returning back to Loogootee, Indiana in 1997 to be close to their family. Rod adored his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog Muffin was always close by. He was often teased for feeding Muffin better meals—steak, chicken, and ham—than he ever fed his own kids.

Rod enjoyed the simple joys in life like boating, fishing and spending time with his family and grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Regina Carrico, brothers, James “Turk” Carrico and Bob Carrico, great-grandson, Rory Johnson, and sister-in-law, Jane (Williams) Carrico.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Sue Carrico, children, Julie (Curt) Johnson, Donna “Dee” (Bill) Greene, Don (Heather) Carrico, grandchildren, Ryan (Molly) Johnson, Kevin (Mya) Johnson, Darren Johnson, Tyler (Kyla) Greene, Eric (Kara) Greene, Dylan Greene, Daniel Greene, Ethan Carrico, Marcus Hopkins, great- grandchildren, Kenzie Johnson, Reid Johnson, Rayden Johnson, Mia Johnson, Cale Greene, Kora Greene, Amelia Greene, Silas Greene, sister-in-law, Elaine Carrico, and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 11:00 A.M on Monday February 2, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial and Military Rites will follow in the St. John Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday February 2, 2026, at 9:00 A.M at St. John the Evangelist Church until the time of service.
