
The Martin County Clerk’s Office is preparing for the May 5, Primary Election and reminding voters of key dates and current candidates. Voters must be registered at their current address by April 7. Registration and updates can be completed at the Clerk’s Office, the BMV, or online at indianavoters.com. The candidate filing period for Republican and Democratic candidates runs through February 6 at noon. Independent and minor party candidates may file through June 30 at noon.

At the state level, two Republicans have entered to run for State Rep in District 45. Bruce Borders will face off with Kellie Streeter. Amy Kippenbrock is looking to replace outgoing State Rep in District 63 Shane Lindauer, who did not seek re-election. Three GOP candidates are going to battle it out for the open State Senate seat in District 39, as Eric Bassler chose to not seek re-election. Those candidates are Kristi Risk, Jeff Ellington, and Tanner Bouchie. On the Democrat ticket, three people have tossed their names in for US Representative District 8, currently held by Republican Mark Messmer. They are Mary Allen, Mark Foradori, and Christopher Rector. Joseph Baughman has filed for the Democratic nod for State Senate District 39, Becky Mayfield for State Rep in District 45, and Adam Mann for State Rep District 63.
