A fatal shooting Saturday afternoon in Washington has resulted in a murder arrest. First responders were called around 3:33 p.m. to the area of Southwest 1st Street and Dewey Avenue after reports of multiple gunshots and a male victim. The victim was identified as 51-year-old Phillip Waggoner, who was later pronounced deceased. Police detained a suspect at the scene, identified as 21-year-old Ashton Baxter. Authorities say Baxter has been arrested and charged with murder and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. The investigation remains ongoing. Agencies assisting at the scene included the Washington Police Department, Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police, Washington City Fire, DCH EMS, the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office, the Coroner’s Office, and Central Dispatch.
