AES Indiana has announced the Petersburg Energy Center in Pike County is now operational, adding new solar and battery storage capacity to the region’s power grid. The facility includes 250 megawatts of solar generation from more than 515,000 panels, enough to power over 100,000 homes, along with 180 megawatt-hours of battery storage to help manage peak demand and improve reliability. The project was outlined in the company’s 2022 Integrated Resource Plan to help replace retired generating units and meet updated regional capacity requirements. Company officials say the project supports long-term reliability while providing more cost-effective and sustainable energy. The investment is also expected to support local jobs and economic growth in Pike County.
