Carolyn “Sue” Allen, 83, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Sue was born on August 4, 1942, in Washington, Indiana, to Lemuel Reid and Iva (Chestnut) Phillips of Raglesville Indiana. On January 11, 1963, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Allen, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and community. She dedicated 30 years of service as a cook with the North Daviess School Corporation, where she was known for her warm smile and the care she put into every meal she prepared.
She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Odon and the Raglesville Homemaker’s Club. Sue found joy in cooking, playing cards with friends, and traveling. Above all, she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family – especially during the holidays, when her home was filled with food, laughter, and love.
She is survived by her loving husband, James “Jim” Allen of Washington, her children, Jamie Neff and Michael (Patty) Allen, both of Washington; and her grandchildren, Kasey Neff of Indianapolis, Reid Neff, Garrett Allen, and Zack Allen, all of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Jane Terrell and Evelyn Stuffle; and six brothers, Alva Phillips, Henry Phillips, Harold Phillips, Bill Chestnut, Lemual Phillips, and Erimal Edwards.
Funeral services to honor the life of Sue will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Odon with Pastor John Windell officiating. Sue will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon at a later date.
