The Daviess County Commissioners seemed to be running short on patience when Highway Superintendent Chris Winkler told them the coal company responsible for putting in a run-around road in the mining area on CR 200 N had not met the end-of-year deadline established for the project. County Road 200 N has been closed much longer than originally promised. The commissioners commented on the “number of stories” they have been told and set March 10 as a new completion deadline for the run-around road. They also asked Winkler to invite representatives of the coal company to attend the Commissioners’ March 10 meeting and explain the delay. The county continues to hold the company’s road bond pending acceptable completion of the required work.    In other Highway Department business, Winkler told the Commissioners the county had received a grant for the bridge 95 project east of Raglesville. The commissioners approved a required consultant contract required by the grant. The Commissioners heard a report from Bryant Niehoff on the economic development at Westgate at Crane. The commissioners asked Niehoff to provide employment numbers for the new industries opening in the WestGate industrial park. The Commissioner also approved a memorandum of understanding with Deaconess Hospital for the County Health Department to provide a shot clinic at the former Memorial Hospital Clinic north of Cannelburg. The approval is pending review of the document by the county attorney.
