Aaron Johnson is leading an effort to bring back the Martin County Raiders youth football program, and he’ll discuss the plan this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. on Gettin’ in the Know with Greg Bateman on Razor 94.5. Johnson, a former Raider player and coach, says the goal is to give local kids the opportunity to play football close to home. The program is currently focused on kindergarten through sixth grade, though middle and high school teams could be added if there is enough interest. Organizers are working to use Crane’s football field as the team’s home field and are recruiting players from across the area, including surrounding schools and homeschool families. Registration is expected to open around Loogootee Summerfest, with updates posted on the Martin County Youth Football League Facebook page. A $65 registration fee will help cover equipment, and fundraising efforts are already underway to support startup costs. Johnson says he’s confident the Raiders will return to the field this fall, but community support and player signups will be key to making it happen. Listen to the full interview with Aaron Johnson this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. on Gettin’ in the Know with Greg Bateman on Razor 94.5.
