Washington Mayor Dave Rhodes shared several updates with us on Monday. Rhoads said March will follow a typical schedule for city meetings, with the Washington City Council meeting March 9 and March 23 at 6:30 p.m. The Planning Commission will meet March 11, the Park Board on March 18, and the Board of Zoning Appeals on March 25. He also encouraged residents to attend the Downtown Toast hosted by Discover Downtown Washington on March 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Chamber Restaurant, where a major announcement related to downtown development is expected. Looking ahead, Rhoads said several events will soon return to the downtown Commons, including the First Friday concerts beginning in May and running through October, as well as farmers markets and other community activities. Plans are also underway for expanded Fourth of July festivities as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration. Rhodes added that work on the U.S. 50 project is nearing completion, with crews currently addressing smaller “punch list” items. The project is expected to be fully finished by mid-June.
