Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday as clocks move forward one hour. At 2:00 a.m., clocks will “spring forward” to 3:00 a.m., marking the start of the annual time change that occurs on the second Sunday in March.

The shift was first introduced during World War I in 1918 as a way to conserve energy by extending evening daylight and reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Today, the time change continues to provide longer daylight hours in the evening during the warmer months.
