The Daviess County Assessor’s Office is reminding local business owners about an important change to the Business Personal Property Exemption beginning in 2026. Under Senate Bill 1, the exemption threshold has increased to $2 million in total acquisition cost starting with the 2026 assessment year. Businesses with total acquisition costs under $2 million will still need to file in 2026 in order to claim the exemption for that tax year. Businesses over the $2 million threshold must continue filing their Business Personal Property Return as usual. All filings are due by May 15, 2026. Business owners with questions are encouraged to contact the Daviess County Assessor’s Office.
