Indiana regulators questioned major utility companies Tuesday amid growing concerns over rising energy bills. Representatives from companies including Duke Energy Indiana, CenterPoint Energy, AES Indiana, Indiana Michigan Power, and NIPSCO told the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission that higher bills are largely driven by customer usage, influenced by weather, home efficiency, and appliance use. Data presented showed Duke Energy customers had some of the lowest average bills, while CenterPoint and NIPSCO reported the highest costs and largest increases. Regulators also raised concerns about customer service, including complaint volumes and response times, particularly involving CenterPoint and NIPSCO. IURC Chairman Andy Zay said the commission plans to take action within the next 30 to 60 days and will launch a statewide listening tour to gather feedback from customers.
