Gethel “Arlene” Cundiff

Gethel “Arlene” Cundiff, 68, of Shoals, Indiana passed away peacefully on Friday April 3, 2026 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital surrounded by family.

She was born on October 20, 1957 in Washington, Indiana to Charles Peoples Sr and Janice (Sherfick) Peoples.

Arlene graduated from Shoals High School and went on to earn her associate’s degree in medical billing. Throughout her life, she held a variety of roles, including working in textiles, serving as a substitute teacher, working for the Census Bureau, acting as an assessor for the Martin County Court House, and driving for Lundy Transport. She enjoyed calling Bingo at the Eagles and was a dedicated member of the women’s auxiliary for over 18 years. Arlene and Jeff were always together and shared a love for the outdoors, spending their time mushroom hunting, fishing, and enjoying peaceful moments at Hindostan Falls. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Sister and will be deeply missed by her community and friends and family.

She is survived by her husband of 46 year, Jeffrey Cundiff, her sons, Jason Dean (Bethany) Tinkle, Joshua Curtis (Jasmin) Cundiff, her grandchildren, Hadley, Harper, McKoi, McKartney, step- mother, Naomi Peoples, her siblings, Marnita (Mike) Arvin, Charles (Rick) Peoples Jr., Colleen Stout, Pearl (Scott) Quinn, Jackie (Eric) Harper, half sister, Susan Peoples, Step-sister Dee Dee (Paul) Sanders, and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday April 9, 2026 at 2:00 P.M at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee, Indiana. Friends may visit from 12:00 P.M until the time of service. Burial will follow in South Martin Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Blake Funeral Home to help offset expenses.
