The Washington High School band program is celebrating a major achievement following its recent competition season. Band Director Brandon Burris says the indoor winds group earned a bronze medal at the WGI World Championships in Ohio, marking the program’s first time reaching finals at that level. Burris says the accomplishment comes after months of preparation, with students putting in more than 200 hours of practice between November and April while also balancing other performances and school activities. The program includes multiple components throughout the year, including marching band in the fall and indoor competition during the winter and spring. Burris credits the success to strong support from students, staff, parents and the community. Looking ahead, the band is already preparing for next season, with rehearsals for marching band expected to begin later this summer.
