Federal highway officials have begun the next phase of environmental review for Section 2 of the proposed Mid-States Corridor project in Dubois County. The project would create a new highway connection between Interstate 64 near Dale and State Road 56 near Haysville. The Federal Highway Administration and the Indiana Department of Transportation are preparing a Tier 2 Environmental Impact Statement to further study the project and evaluate potential routes. Two primary alternatives have been identified for detailed review, with a preferred route expected to be selected as the process moves forward. Officials say the project is intended to improve regional connectivity, access to businesses, and freight transportation throughout Dubois County and southern Indiana. Public comments on the proposal will be accepted through July 1. A draft environmental impact statement is expected later this year, with a final decision anticipated in 2027.
