Burke Hayes Fitzgerald, 88, passed away at 2:44 am on May 15, 2023 at Daviess Community Hospital. Burke was born on November 12, 1934 in Daviess County, In and is the son of Owen Gilbert and Alice Esther (Meade) Fitzgerald. He married Roberta Evelyn Dayton on February 5, 1955 and she preceded him in death on June 28, 2020.

Burke was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School and is a member of Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church. He had been a carman for the B and O Railroad for ten years, plant manager for Superior Ball for twenty-four years and owned and operated General Rental for ten years. Burke was also a member of Glendale Masonic Lodge # 461, Scottish Rite of Evansville and Had Shrine of Evansville.

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Fitzgerald of Washington, IN; sons, Jospeh Fitzgerald and his wife Debra of Washington, IN, Stephen Fitzgerald of Washington, IN; grandchildren, Sarah Fitzgerald, Brian Fitzgerald, Karen Hill, Kimberly Emmons; great grandchildren, Kayleigh Maddox, Cameron Lancaster, Connor Blair and Makenzie Blair. Burke is preceded in death by his parents Owen Gilbert and Alice Esther Fitzgerald, wife Roberta Evelyn Fitzgerald, his sisters, Phoebe Allison and Mary Baker and brothers, Donald, James, Owen and Jack Fitzgerald.

Friends may visit with Burke’s family from 10:00 am until the hour of service time of 1:00 pm on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. with Pastor John Stidham officiating. Burke will be laid to rest next to his wife Roberta in East Union Cemetery. The Fitzgerald family has requested contributions be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4587 S. 100 E.
