Larry Lee Beaman, 89, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of the Oaktown, Indiana community, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on June 11, 1936, to the late Dorothy Meeks Beaman and Sylvan Beaman, Larry lived a life marked by dedication to his family and his community.
Known for his undying love and loyalty, Larry is survived by his adoring wife of 66 years, Carol Burr Beaman, whom he married on July 31, 1959, in Oaktown. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and mutual respect. A guiding light to his family, Larry’s legacy continues through his children, Alan Beaman of Oaktown and Carrie Parish (Tim) of Emison; his cherished grandchildren, Ashley Clements (Josh), Jordan Beaman (Amanda), Carley Marx (Gavan), and Collin Parish; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Trinity, Madalyn, Kyleigh, Lemy, and Jalen.
A master at his craft, Larry contributed many years of skilled work as a backhoe operator for Green Construction and Perrynnon Construction. His hands shaped the land and infrastructure, just as he helped shape the lives of those he touched.
Beyond his professional contributions, Larry was an individual of diverse interests and unwavering community spirit. An avid gardener, he was particularly proud of his bountiful tomato harvests. He also relished the thrill of demolition derbies and the competitive edge of Garden Tractor Pulls.
Larry’s deep knowledge of Oaktown extended beneath its very soil, where he knew the path of every water, sewer, and gas line—a walking atlas who helped build the town from the ground up. His service to the town was recognized when he was named man of the year in Old Oaken Days, both in 1987 and 2018.
A respected member of the Vincennes American Legion who served in the United States Army, V.F.W.,and the Lions Club, Larry’s commitment to service knew no bounds. He was also an active participant in the Sullivan County Tractor Pulls, sharing his passion and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts.
Though Larry’s absence leaves a void, his influence remains indelible in the lives of those who had the privilege to know him. Few could match his generosity or dedication to his hometown of Oaktown, where his impact will be felt for generations to come. Larry will be deeply missed but remembered with smiles raised to the clear, blue Indiana sky he so cherished.
Preceded in death by his brother, Frank Beaman, and one son, Jeff Beaman, Larry’s spirit is rekindled through stories shared, gardens nurtured, and community bonds strengthened in his memory. Larry Lee Beaman lived a life not just for himself, but for others—a legacy of love, strength, and integrity.
