The Town of Odon has announced that recent water rate increases are tied to a major upgrade of the town’s water system. The $8.2 million project will include improvements to the water plant, a new water tower, and upgraded pump stations to address low pressure in some areas. Funding includes a $750,000 OCRA grant, a $2.8 million forgivable loan, and a $4.6 million bond through the State Revolving Fund at 2% interest over 20 years. Town officials say the rate adjustments, adopted in June after public hearings, are necessary to meet bond repayment requirements and keep the project on track. The water plant, built in 1990, has only had minor updates since, with the last rate changes made in 1999, 2015, 2021, and 2022. Leaders emphasize the decision was made with the community’s best interest in mind, noting the upgrades will ensure safe, reliable water service for years to come.
