The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has announced multiple arrests following a months-long investigation into child molestation and related crimes that began in May 2025. Authorities say 24-year-old Patrick Cox of Washington and 18-year-old Neveah Brown of Loogootee were first identified as suspects after deputies received an anonymous tip. During interviews, investigators say Cox confessed to multiple crimes. A search of his phone uncovered suspected child pornography, evidence of additional victims, and communication with another suspect, 28-year-old Marie Austin of Sullivan. The investigation, led by Sergeant Ryan Hawkins and Shoals Town Marshal Matthew Copeland, resulted in state and federal charges against all three individuals. The U.S. Marshals transported Cox and Austin to federal custody on October 8 to await trial. Cox faces multiple state charges, including child molesting, rape, sexual trafficking, and possession of child sexual abuse material, as well as federal charges for sexual exploitation of a minor. Brown is charged with aiding in child molesting, rape, and obstruction of justice. Austin faces both state and federal charges for child exploitation and distribution of child pornography. The investigation remains ongoing, and more arrests are possible. Officials thanked the anonymous tipster who helped initiate the case, reminding the public that tips can be submitted through the Martin County Sheriff’s Office app.
