A traffic stop Saturday evening on U.S. 50 near Montgomery resulted in the arrest of a Loogootee man on multiple charges, including felony operating while intoxicated. Sergeant Teresa Vaal and Trooper Aaron Guzman stopped a speeding vehicle and identified the driver as 26-year-old William J. Stewart. Troopers reported signs of impairment and suspected criminal activity. Washington City Sergeant Tyler Holcomb and his K-9 assisted, and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics during an open-air sniff. A subsequent search uncovered suspected marijuana and paraphernalia. Stewart was taken to Daviess Community Hospital for a chemical test before being booked into the Daviess County Jail. Because he had a prior OVWI conviction within seven years, the new OVWI charge was elevated to a Level 6 felony. Stewart faces charges of Operating While Intoxicated (Prior), Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia.
