A project highlighting the history of a nearly century-old Abraham Lincoln sculpture in Odon Park has been temporarily postponed due to weather. Indiana University art history professor Melody Buesner and a group of IU students have been researching the work of local limestone carver Ira Carell, who donated the Lincoln statue to the town of Odon in 1922. The group studied the sculpture in person, reviewed historical records, and examined Carell’s original drawings at the Daviess County Historical Society. A public presentation on the findings was scheduled for this week at the Odon Library, but organizers have decided to reschedule the program for April because of the incoming winter weather. A new date will be announced at a later time.
