A proposal to shorten Indiana’s early in-person voting period is advancing to the full Senate. The measure would reduce early voting from 28 days to 16.

Supporters say the change would cut costs and align Indiana more closely with other states.

Senate Elections Committee Chair Mike Gaskill said the concept has been discussed for years.

Some Democrats oppose the move, arguing it could limit voter access and further impact turnout, noting Indiana ranks near the bottom nationally in voter participation.

The bill now awaits consideration by the full Senate.
