Washington resident Rowdy Abbott has announced his candidacy for Washington Township Trustee, saying he hopes to bring greater awareness and accountability to the role. Abbott said many residents are unfamiliar with the responsibilities of the township trustee, which include helping oversee fire protection in areas outside city limits, providing assistance to residents in need, maintaining certain cemeteries, and supporting community services such as parks and community centers. A lifelong member of the community and a graduate of Washington High School, Abbott said he wants to ensure residents know where to turn for help when facing financial hardships such as housing, utilities, or medical costs. He also said he plans to promote transparency in how township tax dollars are spent. Abbott said his goal is to serve the community and strengthen support systems for residents throughout Washington Township.
