The Washington Police Department and surrounding law enforcement agencies will increase patrols in early April as part of a statewide effort to reduce distracted driving and speeding. Through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute’s Comprehensive Highway Injury Reduction Program, officers will conduct overtime enforcement from April 4 through April 13 targeting speeding and violations of Indiana’s Hands-Free Law. Police officials say the campaign aims to improve roadway safety and remind drivers to stay focused, obey speed limits, and avoid using handheld devices while behind the wheel.
