A suspect is in custody following a pursuit involving a stolen semi truck Friday afternoon. According to authorities, deputies received a report around 3:07 p.m. of a stolen beer truck out of Evansville and later located the semi traveling west on Diamond Avenue. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit into Posey County. During the chase, the suspect drove the semi toward a deputy who was attempting to deploy stop sticks and struck a sheriff’s patrol vehicle. The crash caused significant damage and forced the semi off the roadway into a field. No deputies were injured. The driver then refused to exit the vehicle, and deputies used pepperball rounds to take him into custody without further incident. Authorities identified the suspect as 41-year-old Randall Baker of Evansville. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Baker is facing multiple preliminary charges, including attempted murder, auto theft, resisting law enforcement, and operating while intoxicated. The investigation is ongoing.
